Start your day with an early departure from your hotel in Cairo or Giza, timed to reach Abu Ghurab before the crowds — this remote site sees very few visitors compared to Egypt’s major attractions, so an early arrival often means having the ruins largely to yourself.
Abu Ghurab is home to the Sun Temple of Nyuserre, one of the few surviving sun temples built by 5th Dynasty pharaohs to honour the sun god Ra — a distinct architectural tradition separate from the more familiar pyramid complexes.
